How to do it
- Walk the usual route with watering and harvesting access in mind. Note loose edging, slippery material and narrowing growth.
- Clear loose debris and coil hoses safely. Cut back encroaching plants only using their appropriate method.
- Keep unstable edges or damaged surfaces out of use until repaired. Do not disturb buried services to make a quick fix.
- Check that the centre of each bed remains reachable from the path. Adjust access before the next planting if repeated stepping is necessary.
What success looks like
- Routes stay clear and beds can be tended from their edges.
Watch out for
- Hiding a trip hazard under fresh mulch.
