Planning
Adjust your plans after a difficult season
Check what remains healthy, what space is available and how much of the planting window remains.
When to do it
When weather or crop progress differs from the plan.
What you need
- Current calendar
- Garden record
- Seed or plant information
How to do it
- Check what remains healthy, what space is available and how much of the planting window remains.
- Keep productive crops where worthwhile rather than clearing solely on a date.
- Choose a replacement only if the existing zone window and actual conditions suit it. A shorter-maturing variety may help, but its advertised harvest time is an estimate.
- Record the adjustment. If conditions do not suit another crop, cover the bed and wait; do not alter calendar data to justify a planting.
What success looks like
- The revised plan fits the available season and conditions.
Watch out for
- Repeating a failed planting without identifying the likely cause.
